A Gram of Deception
A film by Rintu Thomas & Sushmit Ghosh
Synopsis
Inspired by real incidents, “A Gram of Deception” follows Maya and Zubin, two filmmakers tracing the invisible networks of power surrounding a small, seemingly ordinary object—but one responsible for billions in global revenue and millions of global deaths each year. What begins as a straightforward filmmaking assignment soon enters stranger terrain as conversations move off the record, interviewees retract, images become unstable and pieces of their own footage begin to stutter. Between the filmed and the animated, the film reveals how manipulation can enter everyday life disguised as choice. At its centre is something almost weightless—barely a gram—yet powerful enough to enter homes, bodies, memories and markets, shaping lives while hiding in plain sight. A film about what cannot be filmed, “A Gram of Deception” asks, when truth is constantly distorted—made to disappear—what forms must cinema invent to make it visible again?
