Synopsis
After two weeks trekking in the remote mountains, Salim returns to Oman expecting to go home to Muscat, only to learn from his brother Amjad that their ailing mother has moved back to the family’s old home in the mountain of Al Jabal Al Akhdar. It’s a place Salim abandoned a decade earlier after his father’s death in a landslide. Reluctantly, he follows Amjad to the mountain, where his mother reveals her dying wish: for him to marry Layla, the daughter of his father’s late best friend. Determined to refuse, Salim agrees to meet Layla only out of respect. But his first encounter with her, a confident and independent woman who runs her family’s rosewater distillation business, shakes his assumptions. As Salim explores the village, he’s confronted with vivid reminders of his father’s legacy and the community’s deep respect for him. Drawn into Layla’s world and the mountain’s quiet beauty, Salim begins to reconcile with his past. A visit to the site of his father’s death forces him to confront long-buried grief, and with it, his resistance to the life he left behind. Choosing to stay, Salim quietly joins Layla in the rose fields, signaling not just the start of a marriage, but a return to his roots.
