OBE (SOUP)
Synopsis
Eyimofe, a 12-year-old girl, struggles to recite her poem in ENGLISH at a poetry competition. Her father, Ayodele, supports and encourages her to recite it in a language she is most comfortable with. Her grandmother disapproves, pressuring her to recite it in polished English because winners who have participated before her recited it in English. Eyimofe faces internal conflict but draws strength from her father's support, the rhythmic beat she taps out to find her poem's rhythm. On stage, she bows to pressure and struggles with English but switches to her local dialect, captivating the audience with her authentic performance. Though she doesn’t win she wins the heart of the people.
