His Story

A film by Shibaji Gupta

Synopsis

Log Line: Built strictly on declassified archives, eye witness accounts and a suppressed government inquiry, this rigorous cinematic procedural dismantles the foundational myth of India's independence to expose the systemic erasure—and shocking secret life—of a vanished revolutionary leader. Synopsis: At the close of the Second World War, the world was told that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose—the leader of India’s 60,000-strong armed resistance—had died in a plane crash. But official government inquiries and declassified Indian National Archives suggest a different reality. His Story is a research-driven investigative feature that moves beyond conventional biography to unravel the inconsistencies of Bose’s disappearance. The film explores a staggering alternative: that Bose survived and lived incognito for decades as a reclusive mystic. Grounded by the exclusive recollections of his 28-year shadow companion, Rajkumar Shukla, and testimonies from personal physicians and journalists, the documentary examines deep questions of power, political expediency, and historical erasure. It restores a marginalized chapter of India's independence, exploring the profound spiritual dimension of a military leader forced into the shadows.
