AFRIFF 2018 Programme Announcement

The AFRIFF 2018 programme launch, which took place on October 25 2018, at Twin Waters Lagos, featured a press conference and a screening of the recently released ‘The Hate U Give’ starring Amandla Stenberg. This year, the Africa International Film Festival will be screening over 138 films from over 50 countries, including Nigeria, South Africa, France and the United Kingdom.

Opening with the visually arresting epic Western tale “Sew The Winter to My Skin”, a tale that follows the myth of a South African bandit in pre-apartheid South Africa and closing with the highly anticipated “Nigerian Prince”, a Nigerian venture hemmed by the capable Faraday Okoro, the Africa International Film Festival will take place from November 11, 2018 to November 17, 2018.

This year’s theme, “The Many Faces of Woman” is a visual exploration of the portrayal of women in cinema that raises discussions on a central question; ‘What is a woman?’. Some of the selected films are made by female directors and/or about women as central characters or protagonists. Others are directed by male directors with their gaze on and the interpretation of being a woman. “Through this exercise, I hope an intersection of Male-Female gaze on the Woman can be glimpsed and interrogated.”- Newton Aduaka, Artistic Director at AFRIFF.
